Many people today are trying to earn their way to heaven by being good, and even that is in their own eyes.  Some try to earn God's favor by diligent church attendance, prayer or service, while others are hoping to squeeze through with far less.  Salvation is a fee gift that can only be paid for with the blood of Christ.  Why would we try to earn His favor instead of choosing to live a life of obedience and gratitude for His freely bestowed grace?
